Richard’s has been a member of Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service for more than 30 years.

Since December 2015 Richard has been the Department for International Trade Director for the East of USA, leading the DIT teams in Boston, New York, Washington, Boston and Miami. His main objectives are to help British companies succeed in the US market and assist US companies to bring their high-quality investment to the UK. Richard also leads on the UK export strategy for the US. Richard is based in the British Embassy in Washington. Richard is also the Senior Chair of the UK Government Diversity & Inclusion Network in the USA. Richard established the first LGTB+ Network that covers for the USA and the Americas. Richard was named DIT Global Champion for Diversity & Inclusion in 2017.

 

From 2009 to 2015 Richard was first the Deputy Consul General at the British Consulate General in Sao Paulo and Deputy Director UKTI Brazil and then the Consul General at the British Consulate General and the Director UKTI Brazil. During his tenure in Sao Paulo, Richard led the team that delivered the GREAT Britain House during the World Cup in 2014 and the GREAT British House at Rio +20 in 2012. Richard is a fluent Portuguese speaker.
